THE BDSA AND MARCH FOUNDATION
2019/2020 NEW STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

The Bill Dickey Scholarship Association’s (BDSA) goal is to introduce young people of color to the game of golf and to provide financial assistance to college-bound students. It is with great enthusiasm that we announce our esteemed partner, the MARCH Foundation, has agreed to expand their partnership with us. In September 2019 and beyond, the MARCH Foundation and the Bill Dickey Scholarship Association will proceed to impact more deserving youth, to help change their lives through education while “Building Hope… One Stroke At A Time.”

The BDSA is excited to share how the MARCH Foundation has notably impacted youth in the communities we serve.

MARCH Foundation, which stands for Mutual Alliance Restoring Community Hope, was launched to support the education of African-American youth.   Since its inception in 1997, the Foundation has distributed more than $954,637 in grants and scholarships which have impacted more than 1,500 students to date.

Access to fellowships and college would have been financially off limits for most MARCH recipients.

The MARCH Board is comprised of active and retired UPS executives. Their careers spanned an average of 35 years, beginning as package car drivers or truck loaders. Their personal financial investments provided the source for scholarships and grants. The MARCH Foundation is a 501(c) (3) organization based in Plano, TX.

New Student Scholarship Eligibility Guidelines

1. Student must be accepted to a college or university within the U.S.

2. Student must be a U.S. citizen.

3. Student must be a full time student, maintain a 2.5 GPA on a term and cumulative basis and
submit an official transcript via U.S. mail no later than 30 days after each semester ends.

4. Student is required to inform the BDSA of their academic standing, leadership achievements
and progress on a semester basis (this information will be shared with the Board of Directors
of both organizations).

5. Student is required to submit a Scholarship Questionnaire annually for the purpose of
identifying the school he or she will attend.

6. Preference is given to students (s) attending a Historically Black College or University
(HBCU).

7. Student must demonstrate need.

8. Student is eligible to receive the scholarship for a period of four consecutive years providing
they meet the criteria.

9. Student is eligible to receive the scholarship if he or she does not qualify to play in the
Bill Dickey Invitational Junior Golf Championship (BDI).

Scholarship Application Criteria

I. The primary criteria used to select New MARCH Foundation & Bill Dickey Scholarship
Association students include the following requirements:
A. Scholarship Application

D. Financial Information: FASFA Application and Assessment, Pell Grant & Tuition Cost &
Contributions
E. Leadership and Community Service Activities

II. Scholarship recipients who meet the guidelines are eligible to receive a scholarship, commencing with their freshman year of college. He or she must maintain a 2.5 GPA each semester and on a cumulative basis that he or she is enrolled in college to avoid forfeiture of their scholarship.

III. The essay must be a minimum of 500 words and it must be typed and double-spaced, no exceptions. Be certain to include your full name and the last four digits of your social security number at the top of each page. View Essay Topic and Guidelines>>

IV. Attach additional pages to application if necessary. Make certain all pages are numbered.

V. The two personal reference forms should be completed by your high school principal, guidance counselor or other professional(s) who are knowledgeable of your: (A) Academic Record, (B) Potential for Successful College Level Academic Immersion, (C) History of Active Participation in Golf and (D) Financial Need. The completed reference forms must be uploaded with your application using the form below.

VI. The deadline for completed applications to be received (in the BDSA office) is Friday, May 24, 2019 5:00 p.m. Arizona time. We must also receive your transcripts via U.S. mail by this date as well. Please have transcripts sent to: Bill Dickey Scholarship Association, Attn: Scholarship Committee, 1241 East Washington St., Suite 101, Phoenix, AZ 85034. The BDSA recommends that you send transcript through U.S. mail (certified) to ensuring tracking.

VII. All applicants will be notified in writing, regarding the Scholarship Committee’s decision.

VIII. Scholarship award checks will be written in the names of both the student and the institution.

IX. IMPORTANT REMINDER: Incomplete and/or late and handwritten applications will not be considered.
