Friends and Supporters of the Bill Dickey Scholarship Association,
It is with much regret that we inform you of the loss of the great Napoleon Hornbuckle. It was an honor to have known him.
Hornbuckle and I served together on the board of the Bill Dickey Scholarship Association. As such, we have participated in many golf tournaments and Bill Dickey Invitationals.
Hornbuckle was a proven servant leader. As the current chairman of the board of the Bill Dickey Scholarship Association (BDSA), I am so blessed to have known him as a cohort, but to also be able to call him a friend. What a robust history of being a giver of so many things! He didn’t just give his time and finance to help others, he gave himself to so many different causes. And now, he gives himself again to us. It is our time to pay tribute to him and the legacy he left. Napoleon was a great leader, mentor and friend to all those touched by the BDSA. He will be missed.
The BDSA has always been one of the country’s premier organizations for the development of young minority golfers and professionals. As part of the board of directors, Napoleon Hornbuckle helped to create many successful educational pathways through the game of golf. I’m positive that countless youth who came through the BDSA have benefited from his many acts of kindness, his unforgettable words of encouragement, and his consistent financial contributions that aided in their upward mobility through the game of golf and higher education to become successful and contributing citizens in society.
To his family, we wish you well. Please take heart in knowing that Napoleon Hornbuckle was a kind leader and friend. There aren’t enough words to pay homage to him. We salute him as a mentor and a gentleman and can only hope that many who have been touched by his leadership will grow and take root from the many seeds that he has sown.
Rest on, Hornbuckle. You will continue to live in our memories and in our hearts.
